ABOUT
Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.
Prior to this project, I was approached by the SoKrispyMedia team and asked if I would be able to assist with the custom Unreal VFX layout workflow, the same as previous Mr. Beast projects. I was unavaible as I was working at Blur Studio at the time, so we decided that I would finish off a tool I had been working on for their team that would automate the entire process of bringing in camera track data into Unreal Engine.
This would be a much more advanced version of the Sequence Creator tool made during the Mr. Beast Chocolate Factory video. Not only would it create shots based of a template sequence, but it would also import camera track fbx files into a CineCamera transform track, apply a custom image plate Post Process Material with Keying functionality, and also give the option to import Proxy Mesh.
Here is a screenshot of the Editor Utility Widget:
Here is a sped up sample of the tool in action. After setting the Shot name and frame rate, Artists would input the file path of the Camera track FBX, Image Plate, and input the Proxy Static Mesh asset. All these elements are optional, giving the Artist the ability to create a blank Sequence based off the Sequence Template. When the shot is created, all elements are parented to an actor, which can be moved around the environment.
Here is a sample overview of the overall Blueprint node setup. It was important to ensure clear visibility and consistent commenting, as it allowed artists with some basic blueprint understanding to be able to tweak the tool if needed.
This tool was able to streamline a process that would take normally 3-5 minutes down to around 1 minute. With a project with many shots that would change quite rapidly, this proved to be an effective tool that simplified the process for artists.
The project used Unreal for all the interior event stages, with artists working remotely. I was called in a couple times to assist with general Unreal inquiries as well as any questions regarding the tool.
