ABOUT
Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.
This was my first time Co-Directing a lyric video, and this was an opportunity to really dive into Unreal and try a photorealistic but stylised look. The idea was to have a El Camino car model drive down a desert road and attach different cinematic cameras around the car with interesting shots.
I was in charge of everything Unreal related, which involved getting the rendering pipeline from Unreal to After Effects set up, blocking out the environment from assets we got from the Unreal Marketplace, and spending time with the other Co-Director to set up the cameras and getting the look of the car right.
Because we had some shots of the car wheels, we needed a way to get the car suspension to react to the ground. Because we were in a game engine, I figured we might as well use Unreal’s driving template project and apply the car rig to our car model so we could have a fully controllable vehicle with wheel animations:
I just hit accelerate and we recorded the animation, which we used for the entire video.
